The Departed

The Departed was released in 2006. It is a remake of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs. The film stars many famous actors including Matt Damon, MArk Wahlberg, Jack NIcholson, MArtin Sheen and Leonardo Dicaprio. The film takes place in Boston, where Mob boss Francis "Frank" Costello (Nicholson) plants Colin Sullivan (Damon) as an informant within the state police. Simultaneously, the police assign undercover cop Billy Costigan (DiCaprio) to infiltrate Costello's crew. When both sides of the law realize the situation, each man attempts to discover the other's true identity before being found out. Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver was released in 1976 it is set in New York City, soon after the Vietnam War. The film stars Robert De Niro and features Albert Brooks, Harvey Keitel, Leonard Harris, Peter Boyle, Cybill Shepherd, and a young Jodie Foster. De Niro plays Travis Bickle an ex marine living in Manhattan. He is lonely and secluded he works all night to cope with his insomnia. He sends letters to his parents telling them of his government job that doesnt exist. He starts to have feelings for a woman Betsy who campaigns for the senator. He takes her out but she is repulsed by the film he shows her. He then starts to have violent thoughts and begins to hate the crime and filth of the city. He then goes after and kills a pimp and his crew and saves a 12 year old prostitute played by Jodie Foster. The media hails him as a hero but the viewers are left wondering of his sanity.
Martin Scorsese and Robert De NIro have collaborated many times creating a total of nine films together. Some of these films including Taxi Driver are thought to be some of the best ever made.

Shutter Island

Shutter Island is Scorsese's latest film which was released this year. It is a psychological thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is based on the 2003 novel Shutter Island written by Dennis Lehane. The film is set in 1954, DiCaprio plays a US Marshall called Teddy Daniels. He has gone to the Ashecliff Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a woman patient. He soon starts to find things out and starts to get suspicious. He starts to think that the hospital are performing operations on its patients in order to control there minds. Teddy then goes to the lighthouse where he is told that the operations are taking place but instead he finds only the head psychiatrist Dr. John Cawley (played by Ben Kingsley) who reveals a big twist in the film.
